Wes - Alenne and I pray for your recovery daily. You cannot know the how proud we of are you and the special place that you have in our hearts. Your story never ceases to impact me each time I read it and your desire to take tragedy and turn it into something positive continues to inspire me daily. From an old soldier to a young one – your courage and commitment humbles me. Keep facing forward and know that God is with you to take strength from in your daily struggles and that you also have us out here who are with you in spirit. I look forward to meeting you someday face to face.

Wes -- You probably don't remember, but I met you before you joined the Army. I used to work with your mom and have been following your service in the Army with great interest from induction to date (I am a former Marine and a veteran of the Persian Gulf War).

One of the best stories I remember was when your Mom went out to visit you in Hawaii. She was very excited to see you and having been stationed over there, I told her of places to visit. The best part was she came back with that fake picture of the shark. Ask her about it. I didn't know she was so adept at photoshop.

Keep fighting the good fight.

Thank you for honoring our country with your bravery. I know of your story through correspondence with your mom, as our company does business with her company.

Whoever set up your web page did a great job. It is very apparent that your family and friends love you very much. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

That we are alive today is proof positive that God has something for us to do today.

I know your parents are working on a new home and I look forward to meeting you when you get home from Seattle. I heard once that the people who go through the most difficult times are very blessed. I know you will find your way in this world and recover. Many people are praying for you. My best. Gloria

My brother was on the ground in the Persian Gulf; he was an operations officer and had a much safer assignment for sure, though it was enough to worry family and friends. He came home safe, but we each felt the impacts of his time at war in some way. Sitting in the peaceful confines of our houses and homes, many of us forget the work and sacrifice by men and women like you that make this peace and comfort possible.
Your story has touched me and my family as a reminder of the "community" that we are part of and without which not much of what we do would be possible. Thank you for what you have done and given. You should also know that we are behind you and understand that we have been truly blessed to hear your story. Keep up the hard work-keep your head high! Those pictures show that with your eyes brightly open to the world, you have a lot left to show us!

My Brother,
I sat for 30 minutes trying to figure out what to say. I wanted to say thank you..but then i thought about the kind of man you are. You would just tell me your doing your job in the most humble manner. Soldiers like yourself are to selfless to think of themselves. Many that have read your story may have been amazed by it. Not me. I dont know you, but i know who you are.....You are a fighter. No way you would not finish the mission even if you didnt no what it was. You soul would not allow it. I am very motivated by your story. As i get ready to deploy for the third time to Iraq with 1st Cav, i have never felt the drive you story has giving me. Even as i feel a little fed up with things, your story has giving me the drive i need to carry on the mission as you continute to do. So, from soldier to soldier..i wont say thank you...ill say JOB WELL DONE!!!!!! SGT REED.

Hi Wes, just wanted to send a quick note and hope you are doing better. Our family too has been affected by not only a death in Iraq due to a roadside bomb but I also have a brother who is a quadraplegic (since 1989). Just know it WILL get better. We don't always know what God has in store for us but believe that there is a purpose. My brother is leading a happy, active life and is probably happier than he has ever been.

Any how, here is the quote for the day. “Its not the rewards in life that we are presented with and its not the fame or accolades that makes us the man. It’s the hurdles that we get over and the lives that we change on the way.” Not bad for a jar head right? Well I just thought that I would drop in my two cents and let you know that I miss you and am glad you are doing well. My name is Stephanie and my company helped your parents move to there new house here in Spokane. I just wanted to say how proud I am of you and all you have done for this country. My husband is a Firefighter in the Air Force. He was stationed in Balad at the same time you were air lifted there. He would have been the one that met your plane, controlled the scene and made sure you received the emergency care that you needed. I asked if he remembered you and he said that there were some many young soldiers coming thru daily that it would be hard to remember. He would like to meet you (again). We are planning on going to the benifet in Oct. Hope to see you then.

Hey there kiddo. Just writing you to say hi and let you know that I am thinking of you. I miss hearing from you and can’t wait to see you. You have to know that I am proud of you and what you are doing in life. You’re a good kid Wes and you have a lot in life to still accomplish. The mountain is large and the path is rugged, but the reward in the end will be the fact that you did not quit during the journey. Remember, you are what you want to be in life and nobody can ever change that.

From your big brother, I love you and wish you a quick recovery. And by the way, congratulations on the metal kid.

Dear Wes,
Strange thing happened to me this past Sunday (Sept 21, 08). Matt Lexow called me at my home (we went through high school together). He told me all about you and your receiving a Purple Heart. What an honorable decoration, unfortunately our charished soldiers have to go through much for that distinction. I just want to take these few lines to say thanks; thanks for your sacrifice to our great nation, thanks for standing tall even when it is unpopular by many we protect (that's what freedom is), thanks for protecting that freedom, our liberty, and our way of life, and there's so many more things, but let me add this one last thanks. Thanks for being strong, you courage has deeply touched my friend Matt. He has a light of hope that shines for all to see and sets an extraordinary example for many, but it takes much energy to keep the light lit. You have given him more fuel for that lamp. He told me you look up to him, I think those feelings are reciprocated. You too are a shining example to be emulated.
I know this has been lengthy and I know I could write much more, but maybe I'll save that for another time.
Wes, let me say one more time as I go, Thanks

What an incredible story! I can only imagine what you and your family went though. Thank you for being such a strong person and having the will to fight! Sometimes we forget in ''everyday'' life just how much we should cherrish our time here. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family and i could only wish to have the honor of meetin someone like you. Just knowing the person who triumphed over such a devistating thing. I lost 3 friends to crazy things like that and i think about them every day. I will now think about you and smile knowing that you came home! Once again thank you for making the fight home!

Thank you:

Wes,
I learned of your story through my realtor when I was looking at purchasing a home, and we visited your parents house. I just want you to know that what you have gone through, to recover as well as you have is nothing short of a miracle. Which I am sure that you are aware of. My thoughts and prayers are with you each and everyday. I am sure that you are anxious to return home to Spokane, but don't worry it hasn't changed all that much! Good Luck with your continuing recovery and "Thank You" for making the ultimate sacrifice.
Best Wishes!

He suffered injuries from an IED blast while in a Humvee in Fallujah. My heart goes out to you and your family. You are so so so strong. You are a true warrior and I have the utmost respect. So tomorrow is your big day. Getting out of the hospital and getting a little bit of the freedom back that you have been missing over the last 7 months or so, that’s good.

Anyways I just thought that I would tell you that I miss your and everyone else that I have met on this journey. It’s still hard for me to grasp the idea that a few years ago, I didn’t know about you, Curtis or Robby or even dad. It was even harder for me to grasp the idea that you had been injured and might not have made it and I still had not met you face to face. I’m not a soft spoken person nor am I one that shows my emotions in public. I have to be honest though, it killed me to see you lying there in the bed looking up at me and not being able to say anything to each other. Not only do you question what you would say to offer comfort, but you try and think of what you might say to someone that you have just met for the first time. For me reaching out to find dad was a great thing. I have no regrets in my life except the fact that it took so long to meet you guys. Go through your life with no regrets and take what you want from it. As you know life is too short and no one has control over it. It’s better to live fast and enjoy the ride that it is to sit back and think of all the things that might be and could have been.

I love you kid, keep the head up.

You are obviously surrounded with a very loving family and a wonderful support system, each with their own unique contributions to your recovery and future.

Thank you does not come close to capturing what I feel you deserve, but in this forum it will have to be enough. You are a fighter, a true warrior and a great American. Thank you.

You don't know me but I am but one of millions of Americans who are so grateful to you for being willing to sacrifice yourself so that we can remain free. No, freedom is not free. It is won by those willing to give of themselve so we can enjoy our life as we have it. I am shocked by the continued sacrifice that you and other service members give for all of us you don't even know. I wish you a successful recovery and may God give you strength to build your new life. Thank you again for your call to duty and service and the sacrifices on our behalf--YOU ARE TRULY AN AMERICAN HERO!
